For this second week of the Great Pyrenean Traverse we continue on the GR10 on the French side of the range, starting in the Basque country beneath the Pic d’Orhy and crossing into the Béarn Region via the stunning Pic d’Anie and the Ansabère needles. We finish beneath the iconic Pic du Midi d’Ossau.

ITINERARY
DAY 1
We collect you from Pau or Lourdes train station and head up to the Iraty Chalets in the heart of the largest beech forest in Europe where we spend our first night.
DAY 2
Today is a nice warm up day, heading down from the Bagargiak Pass (1327m) through beautiful countryside, finishing in Logibar, our hostel for the night at the entrance of the Holzarté Gorge (375m).

To join or leave: Taxi 23kms to/from Arette, bus to Oloron St Mairie.
DAY 3
From Logibar we go over the Holzarté footbridge (580m) and then up the Anhaou Pass (1383m) to Saint Engrace (630m).
+1000m, ~8h walking.

DAY 4
We move from verdant pastures to higher and spectacular limestone scenery today. We climb via the Col de Pierre St Martin (1760m) to reach the Refuge de Jeandel (1670m) in Arette, La Pierre St Martin for the night.
+1000m, – 90m, ~5h walking.
To join or leave: Bus to Oloron St Mairie.
DAY 5
Today takes us across high limestone plateaux and the Pas de l’Osque (1922m) down to the beautiful village of Lescun (900m) with its spectacular backdrop of the Aiguilles d’Anasbère.
+300m, -1000m, ~7h walking.
To join or leave: Taxi to Bedous, train to Oloron St Mairie and on to Pau.
DAY 6
We climb over the Col de Barranq (1601m) to reach Borce (650m) and our accommodation for the night.
+700m, -1000m, ~6h walking.
To join or leave: Bus from Etsaut/Borce to Oloron St Mairie and train on to Pau.
DAY 7
From Borce to Ayous (1947m) by the “Chemin de la Mature” and the Ayous Pass (2185m) for our last night in the Ayous Refuge looking out on the Pic du Midi d’Ossau.
+1500m, -250m, ~7h walking.
Not possible to arrive or leave this day.
DAY 8
Descent from Ayous to the Bious Artigue lake and transfer to Pau train station.
500m descent and about 1h30 walk.
