The Mont Perdu World Heritage Area covers an area taking in parts of both the French Pyrenees National Park and the Ordesa-Monte Perdido Spanish National Park. It is only one of only a very few trans-boundary sites listed on the World Heritage register for under more than one criteria.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Arrive in Luz on the bus from Lourdes and walk 2 mins to Hotel Les Templiers to check in. We will take you either to your accommodation for your first night and organise a time for your briefing. We can suggest a walk around the town or valley depending on the time you have. Either a hearty dinner in the hostel or choose from one of the restaurants around town if you are staying in the hotel. Furthermore there is the option to do some shopping for your picnic the next day.

DAY 2

After breakfast we transfer you up to Col des Tentes at 2200m, nearly on the Spanish border. From here you have a longish descent to Torla, past the mythical Bujaruelo Refuge and through the wonderful forest next to the river. You will be glad to arrive in Torla and the comfortable hostel there for the night. Dinner and bed in preparation for tomorrows walk in the Ordesa Canyon.

DAY 3

A good breakfast ensures you are ready for a big day today. Collect your picnic lunches, and set off for the bus which will take you up to the Ordesa carpark. From here you climb steeply up one side of the canyon to find a ledge path leading along one side. Wonderful views from here and then a traverse towards the head of the canyon and its waterfall. Possibility to head to Goriz Refuge and stay here for the night, or descend via the valley bottom and return to the bus and Torla for the night.

DAY 4

Today's itinerary will depend on whether you stayed at Goriz, or in Torla for the night. If you've stayed at Goriz then you'll descend via the canyon floor and traverse around to Bujaruelo Refuge for the night. Optional taxi for the end of this day. If you have stayed in Torla then you'll have a taxi to Bujaruelo and then climb back up to the border and around to the Sarradets Refuge on the French side of the Breche de Roland for your opportunity to spend a night high in the mountains.

DAY 5

Regardless of where you stayed the previous night you will spend tonight in Gavarnie village, either walking over the Col de Bucharo from Bujaruelo, or walk down from Sarradets Refuge to Gavarnie. In both cases you will arrive via the Plateau de Bellevue for wonderful views into the Gavarnie Cirque. If you have stayed in the Sarradets Refuge you might want to rise early and tackle the Breche de Roland.

DAY 6

From Gavarnie you can transfer out of the valley early if you choose, or you can add another day of walking in the cirque (well worth it) and transfer out at the end of the day. We can indicate bus times (or organise a taxi) and also organise accommodation for you in Lourdes, should you wish.
