Your week starts with a round trip walk to the Lumière Plateau and the Lienz Plateau. Forests, views and an afternoon tea spot on the way down… ease into your holiday.
Today you can either undertake the full round trip of the valley between Barèges and Luz St Sauveur on the GR10, or simply walk down and catch the bus back up. The choice is yours. Luz is a lovely village to explore for the afternoon. Write your postcards on a sunny café terrace while waiting for the bus, explore the shops or visit the National Park House and the fortified Templar church.
Now your legs are in gear, head up the “Montagne Fleurie” circuit for spectacular and dramatic views. Or have a pleasant stroll to the creperie and lookout point at St Justin.
The highlight of the central Pyrenees is the Gavarnie Cirque… a 1500m vertical semi-circle of rock carved from the mountain by successive glaciations. Impressive in all seasons! There are a range of walking options from half to full day, easy to challenging.
Today’s excursion up to the the Glère Refuge introduces you to the high mountain granite scenery of the Néouvielle Nature Reserve. Head on to Refuge Packe if you have the legs. Enjoy a dip in the “warm” lake and a beer on the terrace of the refuge before your descent. Or simply decide to stay for the night for the full experience!
Catch the bus down to Luz and do our tour of the Luz valley and villages. Two new footbridges over the Pau River have opened up this possibility and are well worth taking advantage of.
Leave Barèges on the bus to Lourdes to connect with your train or plane.
