ALBULA HIGH TRAVERSE

ABULA HIGH TRAVERSE

Discover the Albula range north of St Moritz

READY TO SKI ?

The Albula range is situated in the Grisons canton (Graubünden) to the north of St Moritz. The Bernina mountains to the south leaves them slightly in the shadows with their 4000m peaks, but this Albula traverse offers some magnificent panoramas and its share of wonderful descents. As a bonus there is the quality of the Swiss refuges and the sub-culture in this Romanche speaking area of Switzerland.

DAY 1

Meet at the St Moritz train station and transfer to Bivio. Night in hotel there. Meet with guide to check equipment and brief for the week ahead.

DAY 2

From Bivio we take a taxi to Julier Pass (2264 m). We climb to Fuorcla d’Aguel (2966 m). We have then the option to climb to the Piz Aguel or the Piz Surgonda (3196 m). We descend to the Jenatsch Refuge at 2620m.

DAY 3

We pass under the Piz Laviner, and have the option of climbing the Piz d’Err (3378m) before starting a lovely descent into the Val Mulix all the way down to Nax at 1750m. Depending on snow conditions we can ski (or take the train) down to the small ski station of Bergun (1400m), where we spend the night in a hotel.

DAY 4

From Bergun we again use the lifts to gain altitude,  this time to head up towards the Piz Darlux (2640m). From this peak we head along the ridge to the Tschimas da Tisch (2872m) and then descend to the Alp Plazbi (2100m). Another traverse takes us across the Fuorcla Pischa (2870m) to finally arrive at the Refuge Es-Cha at 2590m.

DAY 5

Today we climb the Piz Kesch (3420m) via the Porta d’es-Cha at 3000m before our descent to the Refuge Kesch at 2630m.

DAY 6

We set out for a long day, headed for the Grialetsch Refuge (2540m) and passing through the Val Funtauna, Scaletta Pass (2600m), Scalettahorn (3068m) and finally the Fuorcla Vallorgia (2970m).

DAY 7

For our final day we climb the Piz Sarsura (3180m) which is followed by a wonderful descent into the val Sursura (1450m), not far from Zernez. We have a short transfer in train or taxi to return to our hotel.
